Super Kings suffer first defeat (DareDevils Beats SuperKings)

Chennai Super Kings have had an unbeaten run in the Indian Premier League so far. Their winning streak came to an end at the hands of Delhi Dare Devils on Friday as they lost by eight wickets.

Dhoni’s side did not look at their best as they were restricted to 169. Some disciplined bowling from Delhi Daredevils ensured that MS Dhoni and his men didn't really cut lose.

There was no Matthew Hayden and Mike Hussey and their absence was felt when the Super Kings batted. Earlier, Hayden would provide the big boost at the top of the order and Hussey could carry the momentum in the middle overs.

However, the absence of the Australian stars allowed local boy Vidyut Sivaramakrishnan to get a game. He did not disappoint as he hit a quick-paced century at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.

At No.3, Sivramakrishnan, was in his element from the word go. Familiar with his home conditions, he used aggression to take on the likes of Glenn McGrath and Mohammad Asif. Along with Dhoni he added 57 for the third wicket.

Stephen Fleming and Parthiv Patel managed to get off to a decent start, but neither of them could really push the scoring rate up.

Vidyut was dismissed by McGrath in the 15th over. His innings of 54 came off 37 balls and was studded with seven hits to the fence and a six. Later, Dhoni and Albie Morkel tried to consolidate the innings. They enjoyed moderate success.

Dhoni, however, couldn't carry on all the way. He looked well set on 32. A mistimed hit off Asif gave Shoaib Mailk an easy catch and it ended Dhoni's stay at the wicket.

But some hard hitting by Morkel in the end saw Chennai set up a challenging target for Delhi. Earlier Super Kings's Fleming, who was playing his first IPL game, lost his stump in the very first ball but was lucky not be given out due to a no-ball from Yo Mahesh.

Fleming then slammed Mahesh for two successive boundaries but failed to connect the fourth ball that saw his off-stump fly. It was Gujarat opener Patel's turn to take over after his partner's dismissal. He along with Vidyut used the field restrictions well and continued generating runs by hitting in the gaps.
