Jubilant Mumbai Indians upset Delhi Daredevils (IPL 23rd Match: delhi daredevils innings)

The Mumbai Indians finally did it on Sunday evening and achieved their second win of the DLF Indian Premier League as they thrashed the Delhi Daredevils by 29 runs at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. So far, this is the biggest upset of the tournament. The lowest placed team in the IPL table dethroned the Daredevils from the top spot.

Defending a total of 162 runs on a flat wicket of DY Patil Stadium, Mumbai Indians knew they had to come off good with the ball and their bowlers did not disappoint them. Delhi Daredevils, for the first time in the tournament, were all out while chasing.

Stand-in captain Shaun Pollock led from the front and lived up to his reputation of a terrific all-rounder. He added quick 33 runs and picked wickets of Shikhar Dhawan (1) and Shoaib Malik (24). His captaincy deserves special accolades too, as he put in all his international experience to the hilt and shepherded his side to win. He, undoubtedly, was the Man of the Match.

Ashish Nehra, who is looking to make a comeback after a prolonged injury, was equally impressive as he picked three wickets of his statemate Gautam Gambhir (1), Rajat Bhatia (9) and Pradeep Sangwan (2).

Virender Sehwag, the captain of Delhi and the hero of their last match against Chennai Super Kings was looking murderous as he smashed 40 runs off 20 balls. Dominic Thornely offered a full toss to Sehwag, who lofted it only to be caught by Shaun Pollock at short mid-wicket. Despite losing the match, he has now become the top scorer and a proud owner of the 'Orange Cap'.

Another threat, AB de Villiers, however, was unfortunate as a straight shot from Sehwag caressed pacer Dhawal Kulkarni's fingers and hit the stumps at the non-striker's end. De Villiers, by that time, was way out of his crease and consequently had to walk back.

Dinesh Karthik and Shoaib Malik (24) then tried to mend the innings but Pollock removed the latter and broke the partnership.

Earlier, Mumbai Indians batting failed to fire in unison yet again when Delhi Daredevils put them in to bat and restricted them to a total of 162 at the loss of eight wickets.

Yo Mahesh was pick of the bowler for Delhi for he picked three wickets. He scalped Jayasuriya and Takawale's wickets after the duo gave a steady start to the Mumbai Indians and were heading towards the total. Jayasuriya, in particular, looked threatening as he made 34 runs in 16 balls before Mahesh's quick delivery sent his off stump cartwheeling.

Robin Uthappa and Dominic Thornely tried to consolidate their innings as they hit the Delhi bowlers for a few boundaries. But Uthappa perished to Pradeep Sangawan for 22 runs while Thornely failed to read Rajat Bhatia and went back adding 30 runs. No other batsmen could contribute anything substantial, except Pollock, who quickly added 33 runs to the team's total.
